New generation of compact Audi 80 sedans with B4 serial number appeared in 1991. All benzene versions were available with continuous full quattro drive. At the same time, they could be completed with 5-stage mechanical gear only. Besides, Audi made about 2500 Quattro Competition cars for German and European market. It was street homologation of Super Tourenwagen Cup (STW) racing car built on B4 platform and having sedan body, modified 16-valves engine of 2.0 l volume and 140 hp power. Quattro Competition has the same bumpers as Audi S2 and rear wing.
Along with the sedan, on the basis of B4 platform Audi has produced Audi 80 Avant (from 1992) wagons and Audi Cabriolet, which were mostly made on the Audi Coupe basis. It meant that Audi now offers European customers sedan, coupe, cabriolet and wagon based on the Audi 80. For North-American market Audi sold coupe only of 1990 and 1991 model year but wagon has never been sold officially. Cabriolet was firstly available with I5 motor of 2.3 l volume and later I4 of 2.0 l and V6 of 2.6 l appeared.
Production of B4 sedan was ceased at the end of 1994 model year (in North America sales also continued in 1995). Avant and coupe were discontinued in 1995/1996. Cabriolet was produced till 2000. European version of vehicle was slightly updated in 1998: bumpers and instruments panel as well as projection lens of front headlights were slightly restyled and more options became available. In addition to restyling for European market was performed special Sunline version. Furthermore, this car was equipped with conditioner, leather salon lining, 16-inch alloy wheels and leather-decorated steering wheel.
