Unlike pervious platform B3 was sold all over the world as Audi 80 or Audi 90 and some of supply versions were abolished. Audi mostly applied existing concepts to power unit of new model however for some versions injector was available. For European buyers a number of new benzene and 4-cylinder diesel motor were offered.
5-cylinder Audi 90 was performed again as elite model - more expensive version of standard model as it was with B2 (Type 81). Now Proconten safety system became available for all versions and it was offered as alternative of airbag. This system was available for Audi 80/90 and offered by 1000 DM. Audi 90 is visually differed by a greater width of the panel taillights, license plate surround, and the headlamps, which added an additional light beam. Front grille had some differences too. Spotlights are mounted in bumper and located near fog lamp unlike Audi 80, ands bumper itself is painted in body color. Audi 90 also had 20-valve engine of Audi unlike turbocharged motor used for Audi Sport Quattro. This engine had 170 hp power. Audi 80/90 quattro had a central inter-axle self-locking Torsen differential, and rear differential locking up at speeds below 25 km/h, controlled by electronics.
