  • 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT.

Imagine the brute performance of the KTM Super Duke R in a comfort-focused two-up package intended for the long haul. Essentially, that’s what KTM’s new 1290 Super Duke GT intends to be, as it’s centered on the Super Duke R’s 1,301cc engine but with new cylinder heads and camshafts, as well as new EFI mapping and updates for reduced vibration. Semi-active WP suspension comes standard, as does a larger, 6.1-gallon tank, adjustable windscreen, LED cornering lights, cornering ABS, heated grips, cruise control, quickshifter, and electronic rider aids like traction control. Hill-hold control, which helps with starting at an incline, is an option, KTM says.
  • RECREATING HISTORY.

A stunningMoto Guzzi V8 works racer replica looks certain to steal the show at Coys sale at theMCNLondonMotorcycle Show at Excel on February 13. The bike was built in the early 2000s by ex-factory technicians with access to original drawings and spares to use as patterns to make new components. Coys haven’t provided an estimate but, with only two original V8 racers existing, the parade-ready replica should attract a three-figure sum. Other bikes from the same Italian collection to be offered at Excel include a gorgeous 1957 Ducati 125cc Bialbero racer (estimate ?65,000-70,000), a rare 1955 100cc Cecatto Bialbero racer (?29,000-35,000), a 1938 250cc Benelli Bialbero race bike (?48,000-52,000) and a 1931 1300cc Indian Type 402 four, fully restored in 2010 with minimal mileage since (?55,000-65,000). Entries for the capital’s only motorcycle-only sale scheduled for 2016 are still open and the catalogue - which will be available on January 25 - closes on January 19. Entry fees are ?350 per bike and buyers’ and sellers’ commission is set at 10% plus VAT. Over 100 lots are promised for the sale, which starts at 2.30pm on Saturday February 13 (viewing from February 12). Potential vendors contact Anthony Godin (07854 213928 or 0208 614 7888).
  • V7 II.

Moto Guzzi launched the new generation of the V7 at EICMA 2015, called V7 II, six years after the re-launch of the iconic motorcycle. Although a classic in its visual appeal, the V7 II is a modern motorcycle loaded with modern technologies. The bike is powered by Moto Guzzi’s new 744-cc air-cooled engine that puts out 48 PS at 6,200 RPM and 60 Nm of maximum torque at a rather low 2,800 RPM. Transmission is via a new six-speed gearbox as opposed to the previous V7’s five-speed unit. The clutch, too, has been improved with better linkages and modifications to the lever and cable in order to achieve a softer action and an even release. The bike should be headed to India soon and, once launched here, should make for an interesting choice in that segment.
