  • XDiavel.

While the Scrambler Sixty2 was busy making headlines in emerging markets, the star of the Ducati stall at the EICMA had to be the XDiavel. Unlike the regular Diavel, which gets an 1,198.4-cc L-twin, the XDiavel gets Ducati’s 1,262-cc liquid-cooled L-twin. Paradoxically, the larger engine is down on peak power by six PS and has nearly two Nm less torque as well (156 PS and 128.9 Nm compared to the Diavel’s 162 PS and 130.5 Nm). Ducati, however, say that the XDiavel’s purpose is to merge the parallel worlds of relaxed cruising and sporty riding. Remarkably, the XDiavel is the first motorcycle to bear the Ducati name and combine it with a belt drive. Needless to say, the bike boasts of a host of cutting-edge technologies. At the moment it’s unclear whether the XDiavel will come to India but if it does, it sure is going to find its own fan following pretty soon.
  • Ford to invest Ј3 billion in electRification.

Ford will add 13 new electrified vehicles to its model range between now and 2020, with more than 40 per cent of the company’s nameplates featuring an Electric model. The first results of this Ј3 billion project will be a new Focus Electric car that will be capable of travelling 100 miles on a single charge. The investment will see electrified vehicle research and development centres in Europe and Asia expand, with what Ford calls a ‘hub and spoke’ system that will allow the global team to accelerate battery technology development and exploit opportunities in key markets.
  • CRF 1000L Africa Twin.

Honda unveiled the celebrated CRF 1000L Africa Twin in Europe for the first time at EICMA. This adventure-tourer motorcycle is powered by a 998-cc parallel twin engine that draws heavily on Honda’s CRF 250 and 450 competition machines and uses the same four-valve Unicam head design. While the standard Africa Twin is available with a six-speed manual gearbox, there are two more versions to be had. The first features ABS and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), which controls the amount of torque going to the wheel and, in doing so, prevents or allows wheelspin. The last variant of the Africa Twin features Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) that was first seen on the VFR 1200F. Unlike on the sports tourer, however, on the Africa Twin, the DCT has also been programmed to function off-road. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely at the moment that the CRF 1000L Africa Twin will head to India anytime soon, but there’s no harm in hoping, is there?

Endurance tester David Jahn is in the process of setting up a track at Porsche's private racetrack at Leipzig. The spoiler off his 911 Carrera opens up when the speed nears 100 mph and the automatically withdraws when the brakes are applied. Three journalists check out the rear of the 911 along one of the most famous of the testing or racing circuits that is a standard thing to do. The unusual thing about this session is that David Jahn is proceeding at break neck speed in order to speed ahead of a group of other speeding SUVs. ...see full review

  • 2014 SRT Viper TA
The alignment of camber helps in gripping the mid corner and also gives whip-crack turn-in and lowers the wear of extended lapping. In order to reach the grip limit, all it requires is a tender touch. We explored the car's limit by braking after every lap and entered faster near corners; we also built speed at the big track- as a result, the Viper TA is built on prior laps than the lop off huge chunks. ...see full review
