  • This is Yamaha S10000R.

YAMAHA ALWAYS SAID there would be larger MTmodels, and that the crossplane-crank inline-four engine fromthe YZF-R1 could be used. Given theMT-07’s twin andMT-09’s triple are ‘crossplane concept’ and called the CP2 andCP3, it would kindamake sense to have an actual crossplanemotor in the range. So here’s the newMT-10. This isn’t just the engine froman R1. Unlike its purposebuilt siblings, and despite promising to be ‘enjoyed on any road, any time and at any speed’, theMT-10 is heavily based on themachine that donates its gravelly, snarling engine. Frame, forks, shock and brakes are nicked fromthe sportsbike (or, to be precise, the slightly lower-spec R1-S that they get in the USA). This is Yamaha’s S1000R. Obviously there are changes. The 998cc engine has different pistons, crank, intake, exhaust and injection for bottom-end balls and midrange might, and revised gearing. Like other MTs there are three ridingmodes, but the MT-10 also has cruise control and threelevel traction. A quickshifter will be optional. The frame has ‘optimised strength/rigidity balance’, with a steel subframe andmodified settings for the suspension, and a stubby 1400mmwheelbase - just 20mm longer than the trim newMT-03. Radial calipers have ABS, and the Bridgestone tyres are specially developed for the bike. You’ll get 17 litres in the tank and there’s a 12v power socket. Colours? Blue, black, or the ‘Night Fluro’ grey with high-vis wheels that’s available across theMT range. Yamaha have trodden this path before. The now-defunct FZ1was based on an R1, but its attitude and revvy delivery made it hard work against rival nakeds of the day. Times change however, and now we’re in the age of the supernaked theMT could be just the job. Yamaha haven’t decided howmuch power or weight to claim, or howmuch it’ll cost. But they do assure us that the new MT-10 will be here in May.
  • 690 Duke.

After more than 20 years, KTM have launched the new generation of the 690 Duke. Not only does the 690 Duke house the largest and most powerful singlecylinder engine (73 PS) as of today but also one that complies with strict Euro 4 emission norms. The Austrian firm has added multiple balancers to ensure smoothness in this large-capacity single and has ensured a wider powerband for riding convenience. The 690 Duke also gets a large TFT colour display, on-board computer and ABS as standard kit. There’s no chance of this one coming to India any time soon, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed and praying for a miracle.
  • 2017 Suzuki SV650.

Suzuki has announced that the ever-popular SV650 will make its offi- cial return to the States next year, this after Suzuki saw just intermittent success with its Gladius and SFV650 models. Introduced as an early-release 2017 model, the new SV features 140 redesigned components for both the engine and chassis and weighs around 15 pounds less than the outgoing SFV while producing a claimed 75 hp (versus 71 hp for the SFV). Specific changes to the engine include new pistons with resin-coated skirts, a new exhaust system, and staggered intake funnels that improve midrange performance. The bike also features Suzuki’s one-push easystart system, as well as a low-rpm assist mode, which activates the bike’s idle speed control valve at low engine revs to assist with leaving a stop. On the chassis side, Suzuki’s goal was to make the bike more compact and narrow, which it’s accomplished with updates to the frame and changes to the tank that reduce overall tank width by just over 2.5 inches. The new SV650 will be available early summer 2016.

  • 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA-class / GLA250 / GLA45 AMG
GLA is very similar to CLA brethren in the pattern of riding and handling because they both have shared components which they make use of. Since the response to CLA was pleasing and favourable, Mercedes took a conscious decision of copying the same concept in their suspension technique as that of CLA. In AMG version GLA, to make it more specific, certain features like stability control and driving mode have been recalibrated. The functioning of steering is pretty direct and inputs from the driver are transmitted to the chassis immediately. With all its features GLA is fun to ride around the roads of your town and its 106.3 inch wide wheelbase adds on to the comfort. ...see full review

  • 2015 Porsche Macan S / Turbo
The seating capacity is enough for two adults or three kids. The three- piece backrests may be folded to give way to seating space. In doing away with the backseat, there is an extra 53 cubic feet of space and an almost level rear door. Our visit highlighted a few design drawbacks. At the cornering limit, there was less understeer; this fault could be attributed to the winter tyres that were fitted in for a wintry vehicle launch. Also whether or not the suspensions will function as well in bad road conditions is something that is to be evaluated. ...see full review
