  • RECREATING HISTORY.

A stunningMoto Guzzi V8 works racer replica looks certain to steal the show at Coys sale at theMCNLondonMotorcycle Show at Excel on February 13. The bike was built in the early 2000s by ex-factory technicians with access to original drawings and spares to use as patterns to make new components. Coys haven’t provided an estimate but, with only two original V8 racers existing, the parade-ready replica should attract a three-figure sum. Other bikes from the same Italian collection to be offered at Excel include a gorgeous 1957 Ducati 125cc Bialbero racer (estimate ?65,000-70,000), a rare 1955 100cc Cecatto Bialbero racer (?29,000-35,000), a 1938 250cc Benelli Bialbero race bike (?48,000-52,000) and a 1931 1300cc Indian Type 402 four, fully restored in 2010 with minimal mileage since (?55,000-65,000). Entries for the capital’s only motorcycle-only sale scheduled for 2016 are still open and the catalogue - which will be available on January 25 - closes on January 19. Entry fees are ?350 per bike and buyers’ and sellers’ commission is set at 10% plus VAT. Over 100 lots are promised for the sale, which starts at 2.30pm on Saturday February 13 (viewing from February 12). Potential vendors contact Anthony Godin (07854 213928 or 0208 614 7888).
  • RENAULT news.

Just as Renault is celebrating 25 years of the Clio in the UK, the firm has wheeled out a special edition to commemorate the anniversary. Named the Clio Iconic 25 Nav, it’s based on the flagship of the diesel range, the Dynamique S Nav, and offered with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, both paired to the 89bhp 1.5-litre dCi engine. Extra equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels with black inserts, rear privacy glass, GT part-leather upholstery and heated front seats. Other unique features include special black and white cross-hatch decals on the door mirrors and the option to replicate the motif on the roof, while on the inside, the same treatment features on the air vent surrounds and door armrests. Four colours are on offer - Ivory, Diamond Black, Oyster Grey and Mercury, with prices kicking off at Ј18,075 for the Clio Iconic 25 Nav dCi 90, rising to Ј19,375 for the automatic edition. Available to order now, the first examples arrive in showrooms around Christmas time.
  • XDiavel.

While the Scrambler Sixty2 was busy making headlines in emerging markets, the star of the Ducati stall at the EICMA had to be the XDiavel. Unlike the regular Diavel, which gets an 1,198.4-cc L-twin, the XDiavel gets Ducati’s 1,262-cc liquid-cooled L-twin. Paradoxically, the larger engine is down on peak power by six PS and has nearly two Nm less torque as well (156 PS and 128.9 Nm compared to the Diavel’s 162 PS and 130.5 Nm). Ducati, however, say that the XDiavel’s purpose is to merge the parallel worlds of relaxed cruising and sporty riding. Remarkably, the XDiavel is the first motorcycle to bear the Ducati name and combine it with a belt drive. Needless to say, the bike boasts of a host of cutting-edge technologies. At the moment it’s unclear whether the XDiavel will come to India but if it does, it sure is going to find its own fan following pretty soon.
