  • Updates: Honda CBR 150R and 250R.

    Honda seem to be on the upswing with their updates too and this time it’s their two small-capacity sports bikes that have received cosmetic upgrades. To begin with, the Honda CBR 150R is now available with attractive and sporty graphics. HMSI have priced it at Rs 1.23 lakh (ex-Delhi). Along with the CBR 150R, Honda have also updated their premium offering in the 250-cc category, the CBR 250R. The new 250R now comes with fancy stickers and new colours such as red, black and white. This new CBR is priced at Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-Delhi) for the standard non-ABS variant and at Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-Delhi) for the combined ABS version. Apart from these changes the bikes remain the same as before.
  • Scrambler Sixty2.

    Undoubtedly the most talked-about and anticipated Ducati to be revealed just a couple of days prior to the official opening of EICMA to the public at large. Named after the launch year of the original Ducati Scrambler from 1962, the Scrambler Sixty2 blends its minimalist style with cutting-edge technology. At the heart of the Scrambler Sixty2 sits a brand-new engine from the Italian motorcycling legend: an air-cooled 399-cc L-twin with Desmodromic distribution and two valves per cylinder. Peak power output is rated at 41 PS at 8,750 RPM and peak torque is 34.6 Nm at 8,000 RPM. Being a Ducati, naturally the frame is a steel trellis affair; 41-mm Showa front forks are telescopic while at the rear sits a Kayaba monoshock with preload adjust. Suspension travel is 150 mm both at the front and at the rear. According to Ducati, while the Scrambler Ducati (the 800-cc version) is aimed at bikers looking for an escape, the Scrambler Sixty2 is meant to appeal to a more youthful audience. The bike should be headed for India soon and will become the most affordable Ducati on sale here. So, folk, it’s time to get those old piggy banks out.

    Hands up-wedidn’t expect this. But givenBimotahavebased their newretro on theirmost contemporary, exclusive model we don’t think anyone did. TheirwildTesi 3D (Bike, Aug 2015 issue) is an engineeringmasterclass.Hub centre steering and a front swingarm separate suspension, steering and braking forces - so suspension functionswhile braking, bumps don’t affect steering, and so on. It’s amodernvisionof hewnaluminiumand hand-finishedparts. And soBimota think thismakes it perfect for some retroaction. For theRaceCafe the 3D’s angular body is swapped for a traditional profile and tiny seat unitwith the essential brown perch, and there’s the same headlight as onAriel’sAce. The 1078ccDucati V twin is swapped for the803cc Scrambler unit, with a curvy new pipe. Swingarms are un retro carbon. Stare long enough and, fromsome angles, the RaceCafe almost works… but not quite. For us, a Tesi should be all about sharp, cutting edge design. Other Bimotanews ismorepleasing. The newImpeto uses the Diavel’s bulging 1198ccTestastretta engine, anoptional blower taking peak power past 200bhp. Youcan specify a carbon frame, too. Best of all, Bimota are going back to their roots andoffering frame kits. Their BB3 canbe supplied as a rolling chassis to take the motor from a salvaged BMW S1000RR. Just like the good old days. Let’s hope the kit option extends to more models - we’d love to build our own Tesi (no brown seat).
