Interesting News
  • XDiavel.

While the Scrambler Sixty2 was busy making headlines in emerging markets, the star of the Ducati stall at the EICMA had to be the XDiavel. Unlike the regular Diavel, which gets an 1,198.4-cc L-twin, the XDiavel gets Ducati’s 1,262-cc liquid-cooled L-twin. Paradoxically, the larger engine is down on peak power by six PS and has nearly two Nm less torque as well (156 PS and 128.9 Nm compared to the Diavel’s 162 PS and 130.5 Nm). Ducati, however, say that the XDiavel’s purpose is to merge the parallel worlds of relaxed cruising and sporty riding. Remarkably, the XDiavel is the first motorcycle to bear the Ducati name and combine it with a belt drive. Needless to say, the bike boasts of a host of cutting-edge technologies. At the moment it’s unclear whether the XDiavel will come to India but if it does, it sure is going to find its own fan following pretty soon.
  • SKODA news.

The most frugal Superb models yet have been launched by Skoda with these GreenLine badged models emitting just 95g/km of CO2 in hatchback guise, and 1g/km higher with the estate bodystyle. Official figures suggest that 76.4mpg is possible on the combined fuel economy cycle, with the power and torque figures of the standard car preserved of 118bhp and 184lb ft of torque. Offered in a choice of four trim levels - S, SE, SE Business and SE L Executive - prices start at Ј20,900 for the Hatchback S 1.6 TDI GreenLine, and rise to Ј26,250 for the Estate SE L Executive 1.6 TDI GreenLine. Extra efficiency measures include super rolling resistant tyres, 17-inch ‘Helios’ alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, GreenLine badging, as well as rear privacy glass and cornering front fog lights. The price premium for this greater frugality works out at Ј860, with the first examples turning up at showrooms soon.
  • LAND ROVER news.

As the Discovery reaches its twilight years, with a replacement around 18 months away, Land Rover has launched a pair of special models named Graphite and Landmark. Both versions feature the robust 252bhp 3.0-litre SDV6 powerplant that produces a hefty 443lb ft of torque. Capable of towing up to 3.5 tonnes, it isn’t the most economical vehicle on the planet, though CO2 emissions have been steadily decreasing and are now down to 203g/km, with an official combined fuel economy figure of 36.7mpg on the combined cycle. Both versions feature Xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors, a heated front windscreen, 19-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats and a reversing camera, as well as a 380-watt Meridian Audio system. Landmark versions have a whole host of extra equipment and is based on the flagship Discovery HSE Luxury model, and includes 20-inch alloy wheels, heated seats front and rear, adaptive headlights, Windsor leather upholstery with electric and memory front seats, electric Alpine sunroof, an 825-watt surround sound system, a leather and heated steering wheel and rear seat entertainment system.
