Interesting News
  • VAUXHALL news.

When the Astra range was unveiled, Vauxhall shouted from the rooftops that its most frugal 1.6-litre CDTi ecoFLEX model was capable of emitting just 82g/km of CO2. But a couple of months on and the figures have been revised, and the reality isn’t quite as favourable, with 88g/km the newly quoted figure for hatchback editions. This results in the fuel economy on the combined cycle amounts changing from 91.2mpg to 85.6mpg - a reduction of 5.6mpg. Customers that have ordered vehicles based on the more favourable figures will no doubt be disappointed and perhaps question whether this was a deliberate ploy to hit headlines. And the same issue affects the most powerful 1.6-litre CDTi Biturbo editions with 108g/km previously quoted, whereas in reality the actual figure is now 111g/km. This not only results in a fuel economy figure that is 1.6mpg lower, but it also means an extra Ј10 per year to purchase the vehicle excise duty. Despite the amendments, the prices of all Astra models remain the same as before.
  • 2016 BMW G 310 R.

BMW says it wants to “take the typical BMW premium aspiration to the segment under 500cc” with its new, single-cylinder G 310 R. Developed in Munich but produced in India by TVS Motor Company (India’s third-largest motorcycle manufacturer), the G 310 R features a 313cc engine with reverse-cylinder design that has the intake facing forward and exhaust rearward, allowing the engine to fit better in a chassis with short wheelbase and longer swingarm. Aimed at newer riders, the G 310 R features a moderately low seat height of 30.9 inches and is claimed to weigh 349 pounds while making 34 hp and 21 footpounds of torque.
  • 690 Duke.

After more than 20 years, KTM have launched the new generation of the 690 Duke. Not only does the 690 Duke house the largest and most powerful singlecylinder engine (73 PS) as of today but also one that complies with strict Euro 4 emission norms. The Austrian firm has added multiple balancers to ensure smoothness in this large-capacity single and has ensured a wider powerband for riding convenience. The 690 Duke also gets a large TFT colour display, on-board computer and ABS as standard kit. There’s no chance of this one coming to India any time soon, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed and praying for a miracle.
