  • Citroen e-mehari ReVealed.

Following the unveiling of the Cactus-M concept at the Frankfurt motor show last September, harking back to the original Mйhari from 1968, Citroen has revealed plans to launch a plastic bodied all-electric four-seat cabriolet called the E-Mйhari. Born out of a partnership with France’s Bollorй Group, the new car will be made at the Rennes factory in Northern France and go on sale next Spring. However, there are no plans to sell it here in the UK, with France the main target audience where there are tax breaks and incentives for these kinds of vehicles. The E-Mйhari has a top speed of 68mph, with a maximum range of approximately 125 miles. Charging takes up to 13 hours using a domestic plug socket, and because the battery pack utilises Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP) technology and are classed as ‘dry’ batteries, they aren’t weather sensitive and don’t have the range fluctuation that many modern electric cars suffer with during harsher weather conditions.
  • SIX HITTERS.

These two Benelli sixes were part of a sensational stand by a coalition of three clubs for six-cylinder bikes from Honda, Kawasaki and Benelli. The yellow caf? racer was built by Jean Louis Gayot with help from friend Enrique Martinez. Jean Louis runs a small bike shop called Paris Moto Classique and said: “My desire was to have a caf? racer with silencers that were politically correct, but with a nice sound. I want to ride it on the road and see the reaction of people. I thought I was going to be stopped by a policeman on the roadside one time, but he waved at me and gave me the thumbs up. Another time I rode to Castellet [Paul Ricard circuit] and Agostini told me my bike was ‘ very efficient but also very musical’.” Gayot’s Sei has high-lift cams, six Dell’Orto carbs instead of the stock three, Fontana front brake and box-section swingarm. The special exhaust and tank/ seat bodywork were all sourced from Italy. The green road racer, called Garuda (a large predatory bird in Buddhist mythology) is owned by Bernard Moudurier, president of the Benelli Six Owners Club in France and founder of the Benelli Racing Team. Jean Louis said: “Bernard wanted to prove that the Sei could be a competitive road racing machine, unlike Benelli’s illfated Bol d’Or bike in 1976. He’s a guy who likes to prove nothing is impossible!” The bike finished 14th overall at Magny Cours in a classic endurance race, running second in the wet.
  • Exemplary Explorers.

Triumph have updated their largest adventure bike, and like the Tiger 800 there are now two types: the cast-wheel tarmac-biased Explorer XR, and the spoke-wheel trail-ready Explorer XC. The basic version of each bike is pretty much as before. So that’s a luxurious and syrupy 1215cc ride-by-wire inline three, bolted into a substantial chassis with single-sided swimgarm and shaft drive. Suspension is now supplied by WP, however, and the front brakes are one-piece radial Brembos. There are two riding modes, road and rain, each with their own throttle maps and specific settings for the standard-fit traction control and ABS. The classy dash is also new, switchgear is refined, and the screen now moves at the touch of a button. Yes, it’s electric. That’s a class first, you know. As with the smaller Tigers there are flashier variants too. The Explorer XRx and XCx feature an additional off-road mode with its own settings. Better than that, they also have leanangle sensitive traction control and cornering ABS. That’s right - you can go full gas or grab the lever mid-corner, and a little black box squares the job up. The XRx and XCx also benefit from WP’s semi-active suspension, with preset ride options, continually-tweaked damping and rear preload that sets itself automatically. Heated grips, too. There’s more. Go for the touring-biased XRT or round-the-globe XCA, and the revised Explorer also gets a sportmode, a rider configurablemode, hill start control, heated seats and a taller screen. In terms of high-tech-spec, this puts the big Brit right up there with the KTM 1290 Super Adventure and a BMW R1200GSwithall the factory-fit options.
