Interesting News
  • SKODA news.

The most frugal Superb models yet have been launched by Skoda with these GreenLine badged models emitting just 95g/km of CO2 in hatchback guise, and 1g/km higher with the estate bodystyle. Official figures suggest that 76.4mpg is possible on the combined fuel economy cycle, with the power and torque figures of the standard car preserved of 118bhp and 184lb ft of torque. Offered in a choice of four trim levels - S, SE, SE Business and SE L Executive - prices start at Ј20,900 for the Hatchback S 1.6 TDI GreenLine, and rise to Ј26,250 for the Estate SE L Executive 1.6 TDI GreenLine. Extra efficiency measures include super rolling resistant tyres, 17-inch ‘Helios’ alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, GreenLine badging, as well as rear privacy glass and cornering front fog lights. The price premium for this greater frugality works out at Ј860, with the first examples turning up at showrooms soon.
  • Tornado Naked T.

Although this motorcycle will certainly not make it to our Indian shores, it is none the less of interest to those who want to understand the direction being taken by the global twowheeler industry where small-capacity motorcycles are concerned. Again an all-new development from Benelli, the Tornado Naked T is powered by a 125-cc or 135-cc singlecylinder engine. Despite its diminutive size, the bike rides on 12-inch wheels, packs in a punch with its 41-mm USDs and 11.7 to 12.6 PS outputs for the 125- and 135-cc engines respectively.
  • FIAT news.

The entry-price for Fiat’s new 500X has come down with the launch of new 94bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet engined versions. Prices now start at Ј16,345 for the Pop 1.3 MultiJet, with the mid-range Pop Star version costing Ј18,095, and the flagship Lounge edition priced at Ј19,845. The new 1.3-litre engine is Ј1,000 cheaper than the 118bhp 1.6-litre version, and introduces the more basic, entry-level Pop specification to the diesel engine range for the first time. But despite the more modest power output, there’s no savings to be made on CO2 emissions, as both engines emit the same figure of 109g/km, and according to official figures, capable of 68.9mpg on the combined cycle. The new 1.3-litre engine is available to order now, with the first deliveries expected in the new year.
