  • Updates: Honda CBR 150R and 250R.

Honda seem to be on the upswing with their updates too and this time it’s their two small-capacity sports bikes that have received cosmetic upgrades. To begin with, the Honda CBR 150R is now available with attractive and sporty graphics. HMSI have priced it at Rs 1.23 lakh (ex-Delhi). Along with the CBR 150R, Honda have also updated their premium offering in the 250-cc category, the CBR 250R. The new 250R now comes with fancy stickers and new colours such as red, black and white. This new CBR is priced at Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-Delhi) for the standard non-ABS variant and at Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-Delhi) for the combined ABS version. Apart from these changes the bikes remain the same as before.
  • Successful Daytona debut for new 991 GT3 R.

The new Porsche 991 GT3 R took second place in the GTD class at the 24 Hours of Daytona as Black Swan Racing gave Weissach’s new GT3-class competitor a successful customer debut in the WeatherTech USCC season opener. Nicky Catsburg, Tim Pappas, Andy Pilgrim and factory driver Patrick Long brought the no.540 entry - resplendent in a green chrome livery - home in second place, just three seconds behind the class-winning Magnus Racing Audi R8. In the wet qualifying, the no.73 Park Place Motorsport 911 GT3 R took pole position but was waylaid during the night with mechanical gremlins. The no.22 Alex Job Racing entry was the star for much of the race thanks to outstanding performances from Leh Keen, Shane van Gisbergen, Cooper MacNeil and Gunnar Jeannette, who helped to bring the WeatherTech-sponsored 911 back from a lap down to challenge for victory in the final hour. The quartet looked one of the favourites to take the win only for a rear wing problem to send van Gisbergen spinning down the order twice and require multiple stops to fix the problem. This left the no.540 machine, in the hands of Catsburg, to take the chequered flag in second after the leading Lamborghini ran out of fuel. The no.540 Black Swan Racing GT3 R nearly overcame the no.44 Audi that crossed the finish line in first place on fumes, as the GTD-class battle was ultimately decided by fuel saving and strategy.
  • VAUXHALL news.

When the Astra range was unveiled, Vauxhall shouted from the rooftops that its most frugal 1.6-litre CDTi ecoFLEX model was capable of emitting just 82g/km of CO2. But a couple of months on and the figures have been revised, and the reality isn’t quite as favourable, with 88g/km the newly quoted figure for hatchback editions. This results in the fuel economy on the combined cycle amounts changing from 91.2mpg to 85.6mpg - a reduction of 5.6mpg. Customers that have ordered vehicles based on the more favourable figures will no doubt be disappointed and perhaps question whether this was a deliberate ploy to hit headlines. And the same issue affects the most powerful 1.6-litre CDTi Biturbo editions with 108g/km previously quoted, whereas in reality the actual figure is now 111g/km. This not only results in a fuel economy figure that is 1.6mpg lower, but it also means an extra Ј10 per year to purchase the vehicle excise duty. Despite the amendments, the prices of all Astra models remain the same as before.
