  • 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT.

Imagine the brute performance of the KTM Super Duke R in a comfort-focused two-up package intended for the long haul. Essentially, that’s what KTM’s new 1290 Super Duke GT intends to be, as it’s centered on the Super Duke R’s 1,301cc engine but with new cylinder heads and camshafts, as well as new EFI mapping and updates for reduced vibration. Semi-active WP suspension comes standard, as does a larger, 6.1-gallon tank, adjustable windscreen, LED cornering lights, cornering ABS, heated grips, cruise control, quickshifter, and electronic rider aids like traction control. Hill-hold control, which helps with starting at an incline, is an option, KTM says.
  • VOLKSWAGEN news.

Arriving too late for inclusion in last month’s column, the Scirocco GT and R-Line Black Editions feature black painted alloy wheels, together with a black contrast roof, door mirrors and rear spoiler, as well as rear privacy glass. Offered with a choice of 148 or 181bhp power outputs, there’s also the option of a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG twin-clutch automatic transmission. Prices start at Ј25,855 for the Scirocco GT Black Edition 2.0 TDI with 148bhp engine and rise to Ј30,425 for the R-Line Black Edition 2.0 TDI with 181bhp powerplant and DSG automatic gearbox. Volkswagen dealers can order the cars today, with the first cars registered next month.
  • SKODA news.

The most frugal Superb models yet have been launched by Skoda with these GreenLine badged models emitting just 95g/km of CO2 in hatchback guise, and 1g/km higher with the estate bodystyle. Official figures suggest that 76.4mpg is possible on the combined fuel economy cycle, with the power and torque figures of the standard car preserved of 118bhp and 184lb ft of torque. Offered in a choice of four trim levels - S, SE, SE Business and SE L Executive - prices start at Ј20,900 for the Hatchback S 1.6 TDI GreenLine, and rise to Ј26,250 for the Estate SE L Executive 1.6 TDI GreenLine. Extra efficiency measures include super rolling resistant tyres, 17-inch ‘Helios’ alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, GreenLine badging, as well as rear privacy glass and cornering front fog lights. The price premium for this greater frugality works out at Ј860, with the first examples turning up at showrooms soon.
