GMC

GMC never produced passenger cars. Traditionally, it assembled a variety of freight cars, including the so-called light trucks (pickups and cargo vans). By growth of SUV popularity, GMC, followed by Chevrolet, became a notable manufacturer of SUV.

General Motors Corporation is automobile company, started its history with the creation in a 1900 of truck with a horizontal single-cylinder engine by Max and Morris Grabowski. In 1902 В«Rapid Motor VehicleВ» automotive company was founded. In 1908 General Motors concern was created wich has merged Rapid Motor Vehicle and several other small automotive companies in Michigan. In 1916 GM company was renamed in В«General Motors CorporationВ».

During the First World War from 1917 to 1919 the GMC company has set for the army approximately 10,000 vehicles and modifications based on them. After the war the company started to improve the assembly line at a plant in Pontiac, Michigan, and began re-equipping of their cars by changing their body on the dummies and motorized rail cars of different purpose.

In 1925 В«General Motors CorporationВ» merged Chicago В«The Yellow Cab ManufacturingВ» company. In 1935 GMC started diesel engines production in Detroit. In 1988 "Volvo-White" concern had merged GMS. Nowadays GMC company produces Yukon, Yukon XL, Envoy2 cars and other models.
