Hyundai company was founded in 1947 by Chung Ju-Yung. Initially it was involved in shipbuilding and design and then begun car production. Its first car named Ford Cortina MK I was issued under the license. Research development of the company headed by George Ternbull began its activities only in 1973. It's first more or less independent Hyundai Pony 1.3 car was issued in 1974. Car body was designed by "Italdesign" studio and many modules and units were bought from other manufacturers.
Now Hyundai is fully independent company having a strong presence in Canadian and US markets. Separate model range was established for export markets.
