Mini

MINI - is the brand of the most legendary and most compact passenger cars which traces its history back to 1959 when the first Mini went out of gages of English plant and since that days it have been produced over 40 years without significant changes and it won popularity all over the world. Today MINI brand is famous all over the world and very popular Cooper model in their modern versions is produced under BMW Group authority.

Company's history begun in the end of 40-ies when John Cooper registered Cooper Car Company and started production of racing cars. One of his developments named Cooper 500 has opened a gate to races for many sportsmen. Sterling Moss was one of the first clients. The first Cooper car of "Formula 2" with front engine location was driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, the five-time champion of the world. At the end of 50-ies when nonprofessional racers still participated in races, first Cooper with rear mounted engine competed with such grands as Ferrari and Maserati staking on front mounted engine.

Mini car was produced by Mike Cooper - a son of British racer John Cooper and owner of tuning-atelier of father's name. Launch of the first Mini model had made a furor. At this time little and economic car could supply all wants of customer. Thus the legendary Cooper and Cooper S modifications were born.

Brands releasing Mini cars and plants for its production were passed from one hands to another time after time. Last years Mini was owed by Rover Group. Then Rover group was passed under BMW control and was sold by parts. "Passenger" division of Rover was given without any payments. But Germans reserved the right for New Mini brand. Then "New" word was surreptitiously forgotten. BMW managers for a long time nursed a plan for production of little but prestige luxury cars and Mini brand could not have came a better time.
