Saab

Saab

SAAB (Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget) is a Swedish automobile company. Besides cars SAAB produces aeronautical equipment. SAAB is controlled by General Motors. Its headquarter is located in Trollhattan.

SAAB was founded in April 1937 for war craft production. After the war company decided to deal with cars design. The first SAAB 92001 car was issued in 1946. As aviation company, SAAB developed body which was very successful on hydrodynamic side. This feature is characteristic for SAAB in our days. The company has achieved commercial success after release of high-quality SAAB 95 wagon and in 60-ies SAA B 96 was sold like hot cakes.

SAAB did not hesitate in introduction of new technologies; in 1962 it was first who applied seatbelts. In the future there were first ventilated discs and high-duty door beams. Great attention was paid to comfort of driver and passengers. "99" model was equipped with heated seats and headlights wipers. Some time later, after retract of sportive cars production, the company focused in SAAB 99 improvement. Beginning of 900 model it is related to prestige and expensive cars. Since 1979 SAAB has begun cooperation with Lancia designers. Famous SAAB 9000 was released in 1984. Modern SAAB represents a sample of "Scandinavian design" and elegant Northern simplicity. SAAB is recognizable because of its aerodynamic lines. In car design Scandinavians widely used turbo engines which allow increasing engine power at relatively small volume.
